Eerste paal geslagen voor bouw nieuw testcentrum

Op de Maasvlakte is de eerste paal geslagen voor de bouw van het nieuwe European Center for Flow Measurement van VSL. Het testcentrum zal in het derde kwartaal van dit jaar in gebruik worden genomen.

De nieuwe faciliteit van VSL krijgt een debiet dat zes keer zo groot is als dat van het bestaande testcentrum in Dordrecht. De nieuwe locatie wordt uitgerust met moderne technologie, waarmee zeer nauwkeurige kalibraties van vloeistofmeters kunnen worden uitgevoerd.

Testcentrum

Erik Smits, manager liquid flow metrology bij VSL, zegt blij te zijn met de start van de bouw. “We kunnen nu al vloeistofmeters met een kleine diameter zeer nauwkeurig kalibreren. Straks kunnen we dat nog nauwkeuriger en voor meters met een grotere diameter. Bovendien zullen we met deze nieuwe en geavanceerde installatie ook de vloeistofmeters voor de duurzame en hernieuwbare vloeistoffen kunnen meten en kalibreren.”

“Innovatie is niet mogelijk zonder wetenschappelijke meetstandaarden. Met de realisatie van het European Center for Flow Measurement bevestigt VSL opnieuw zijn leidende positie in de metrologie. Bovendien leveren wij op deze manier een belangrijke bijdrage aan de verdere versterking van de innovatiekracht van Nederland”, verklaart managing director Fabienne van Booma van VSL.

First pile driven for new test centre

The first pile was driven on the Maasvlakte for the construction of VSL’s new European Centre for Flow Measurement. The test centre will become operational in the third quarter of this year.

VSL‘s new facility will have a flow rate six times as large as the existing test centre in Dordrecht. The new location will be equipped with modern technology, enabling highly accurate calibrations of liquid meters.

Renewable liquids

Erik Smits, manager liquid flow metrology at VSL, is happy with the start of the construction. “We can already calibrate small diameter liquid meters very accurately. Thanks to the new European Center for Flow Measurement, we will soon be able to do this even more accurately and for meters with a larger diameter. Moreover, with this new and advanced installation, we will also be able to measure and calibrate the liquid meters for the sustainable and renewable liquids.”
