De Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid breidt haar onderzoek naar de veiligheid van omwonenden van industriële complexen uit. Ook Dordrecht en Nijmegen worden hierin meegenomen.

In april 2021 startte de raad een onderzoek naar de manier waarop de veiligheid van burgers in Nederland wordt beschermd tegen schadelijke industriële uitstoot en lozingen. Hierbij is onder andere oog voor de gezondheidseffecten op omwonenden en de controle op langdurige industriële uitstoot.

Omwonenden

Aanleiding voor het onderzoek was de impact van Tata Steel op de omgeving van IJmuiden.  Al bij de start kondigde de raad aan dat mogelijk andere industriële complexen in het onderzoek worden meegenomen. Met de industrie in Dordrecht (Chemours) en Nijmegen (Asfalt Productie Nijmegen) wordt het onderzoek nu verbreed.

Investigation into the safety of local residents expanded

The Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid is expanding its investigation into the safety of people living in the vicinity of industrial complexes. Dordrecht and Nijmegen will also be included in the investigation.

In April 2021, the council launched an investigation into the way in which the safety of citizens in the Netherlands is protected against harmful industrial emissions and discharges. The study focuses, among other things, on the health effects on local residents and the control of long-term industrial emissions.

The study was prompted by the impact of Tata Steel on the IJmuiden area. At the start, the council announced that other industrial complexes might be included in the study.
