De gemeente Rotterdam draagt maximaal 8,75 miljoen euro bij aan een walstroominstallatie bij Cruise Port Terminal (CPR). Vanaf 2024 kunnen cruiseschepen er van walstroom gebruikmaken.

Het college van B&W gaat de gemeenteraad voorstellen om deze subsidie uit ‘Eneco-middelen’ te doen. Het vraagt de raad om voor de zomer tot een akkoord te komen. De bijdrage van de gemeente dekt de helft van de investering in een walstroominstallatie. De andere helft verwacht CPR uit andere subsidies te verkrijgen.

Cruiseschepen

Wethouder Arjan van Gils (haven en financiën): ”Met een jaarlijkse aankomst van meer dan 100 cruiseschepen is Cruise Port Rotterdam belangrijk voor de lokale economie en het toerisme in de stad maar zorgt ook voor luchtverontreiniging. Door het gebruik van walstroom vermindert de verontreiniging aanzienlijk. Zo’n 65 procent van de cruiseschepen die Rotterdam aandoen kunnen daarvan gebruik maken.

Terugbetalen

Voor de operatie en exploitatie van de walstroominstallatie heeft CPR een nieuwe BV opgericht: CPSP. Cruiserederijen gaan betalen voor de walstroom, waarmee de kosten van de installatie worden gedekt en de gemeentelijke subsidie kan worden terugbetaald. CPR-directeur Mai Elmar: “De toekomst van de terminal is nu gewaarborgd en we kunnen verder met onze mooie, duurzame cruisehaven.”

Shore power for cruise ships at CPR

The municipality of Rotterdam will contribute a maximum of 8.75 million euro for a quayside electricity installation at Cruise Port Terminal (CPR). Cruise ships will be able to use shore-based power from 2024 onwards.

The Municipal Executive is going to propose to the city council that this subsidy be paid from ‘Eneco funds’. It asks the council to come to an agreement before the summer. The municipality‘s contribution will cover half of the investment in a shore-based power installation. CPR expects to obtain the other half from other subsidies.

Reduced pollution

By using shore-based power, the pollution will be reduced considerably. Approximately 65% of the cruise ships calling at Rotterdam can make use of this.”

‘Future secured’

For the operation and exploitation of the quayside electricity installation, CPR has set up a new BV: CPSP. Cruise companies will pay for the quayside electricity, which will cover the costs of the installation and reimburse the municipal subsidy. CPR Director Mai Elmar: “The future of the terminal is now secured and we can continue with our beautiful, sustainable cruise port.”
