VEMW: Infrastructure essential in energy transition

Without an adequate infrastructure for the transport of electricity, hydrogen and CO2, the energy transition will be an almost impossible task. That is the message of Hans Grünfeld of VEMW.

For the energy transition, an infrastructure for electricity, hydrogen, green gas, heat and CO2 is desperately needed. VEMW, the branch organisation for business energy and water users, even calls infrastructure ‘an essential key to the realisation of the industrial and energy transition’. That is the main conclusion it draws after the online Infrastructure Information Meeting held last week.

Better utilisation

“The transition is an unprecedented challenge”, states VEMW Managing Director Hans Grünfeld. “For business energy users it is crucial whether and how they maintain the prospect of access to a reliable and affordable infrastructure. The industry may be faced with higher costs for baseload electricity and the non-timely availability of new infrastructure for electricity, hydrogen and CCS. It is good to see that the grid managers are not only planning and implementing new infrastructure but are also looking at various possibilities for better utilisation of the existing infrastructure.”
