Gate terminal en Eemshaven

Ook bekijkt Gasunie of de EemsEnergyTerminal in de Eemshaven ‘technisch valt te optimaliseren’. Het streven is om jaarlijks 9 miljard kubieke meter aardgas in de noordelijke haven aan te kunnen, om vervolgens door te groeien naar 10 miljard kubieke meter aardgas. Beide investeringen zijn geschikt voor de transitie naar groene waterstof, aldus Gasunie.

Niet haalbaar

Ook is onderzocht of in Terneuzen een nieuwe drijvende LNG-terminal kon worden gerealiseerd. Dit blijkt op korte termijn zowel technisch als commercieel niet haalbaar. Het is daarom volgens Gasunie onverstandig om aan de bouw van een tijdelijke extra terminal in Terneuzen te beginnen. In dit onderzoek werkte Gasunie nauw samen met Vopak.

Gasunie announces that it continues to explore options to increase the temporary import capacity of LNG. For example, the option is on the table to expand Gate terminal on the Maasvlakte with a fourth tank. This would involve an additional capacity of 4 billion cubic metres of natural gas.

Investments

Gasunie is also looking at whether the EemsEnergyTerminal in Eemshaven can be ‘technically optimised’. The aim is to be able to handle 9 billion cubic metres of natural gas at the northern port annually, and then grow to 10 billion cubic metres of natural gas. Both investments are suitable for the transition to green hydrogen, Gasunie said.

Unfeasible

It also examined whether a new floating LNG terminal could be built in Terneuzen. This proved to be both technically and commercially unfeasible in the short term. It is therefore unwise, according to Gasunie, to embark on the construction of a temporary additional terminal in Terneuzen. In this study, Gasunie worked closely with Vopak.
