VTTI considers floating LNG terminal in Rotterdam

VTTI announces that it is exploring the possibility of a floating LNG terminal in Rotterdam. This would further increase Dutch LNG import capacity.

VTTI‘s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) will have an annual capacity of 15 billion cubic metres. This accounts for about 15 per cent of total natural gas consumption in the Netherlands. In the longer term, VTTI plans to use the floating facility to import green energy carriers such as hydrogen. The FSRU is expected to be commissioned in 2024.

Diversification strategy

“As part of our diversification strategy, VTTI’s ambition is to develop a worldwide LNG portfolio at strategic locations, offering transitional solutions for green energy carriers such as hydrogen. The Netherlands needs additional LNG import capacity in the short term to enhance energy supply security. We are pleased to contribute to this based on our many years of experience in the field of energy infrastructure and storage,” explains Guy Moeyens, CEO at VTTI.
