Gevolgen droogte

Volgens de VNCI kunnen er verschillende gevolgen ontstaan, zoals een tekort aan proces- en koelwater, een tekort aan bluswater en een laag waterdebiet met gevolgen voor afvalwaterlozingen en verzilting van het oppervlaktewater. Ook kan de temperatuur van het oppervlaktewater te hoog oplopen, waardoor koelwater niet meer kan worden geloosd. Verder kunnen er door de lage waterstand knelpunten ontstaan in de aanvoer van grondstoffen of producten.

Vertrouwelijk

De VNCI roept haar achterban op te melden welke gevolgen watertekorten hebben voor de bedrijven. Alle input wordt vertrouwelijk en geanonimiseerd ingebracht, aldus de brancheorganisatie.

The chemical industry has been asked to keep the Dutch government informed of the impact of the drought. The VNCI collects this information, which is anonymous and confidential.

The National Coordination Committee for Water Distribution (LCW) is in the process of mapping out the risks of water shortages and the possible consequences. For this purpose, it has asked the chemical industry what the impact of the drought is on the operation of the plants.

Various consequences

According to the VNCI, various consequences may arise, such as a shortage of process and cooling water, a shortage of fire extinguishing water and a low water flow rate with consequences for waste water discharges and salinisation of surface water. The temperature of the surface water may also rise too high, as a result of which cooling water can no longer be discharged. The low water level may also cause bottlenecks in the supply of raw materials or products.
