Czech group acquires power plants

Czech energy company EPH has acquired two Dutch gas-fired power plants, including the Rijnmond power plant near Pernis.

The two power plants were taken over by EP Netherlands, a subsidiary of EPH. The power plant in question is the Rijnmond power plant near Pernis, with a capacity of 800 megawatts. The Czech company is also taking over the Sloe power plant in Zeeland, which has a capacity of 870 megawatts. Furthermore, EPH acquired PZEM Energy, which owns a 55-kilometre pipeline supplying the Sloe power plant.

Relevant player

The company says these acquisitions – accounting for a composite generating capacity of 1,670 megawatts and a 7.5 per cent share of conventional, controllable power in the Netherlands – make it a ‘relevant player’ in the Dutch energy market. EPH says it is aiming for “long-term presence in the Netherlands” and wants to contribute to a stable energy supply in the energy transition.

‘Ensuring security’

“We are delighted to expand our presence in the Netherlands,” said Filip Biznár, cfo of EP Netherlands. “Electricity production from these low-emission gas-fired power plants will remain necessary in the energy transition to ensure security of supply at all times. We look forward to strengthening our position in the Netherlands and being a reliable partner for Dutch employees, our environment and all stakeholders in the energy market.”
