Bij Shell Moerdijk is de eerste paal in de grond geslagen voor de bouw van de pyrolyse-olie-upgrader. Deze fabriek moet in 2024 draaien.

De officiële start van de bouw werd maandag 19 december jl. bij Shell Moerdijk verricht door Joram Meijerink (vice president growth) en Robin Mooldijk (executive vice president), geassisteerd door Richard Zwinkels (general manager Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk). 

Pyrolyse-olie-upgrader

Shell investeert 70 miljoen euro in de bouw van de pyrolyse-olie-upgrader. Deze fabriek kan de kwaliteit van pyrolyse-olie verbeteren, zodat de olie weer opnieuw in de fabrieken van Shell kan worden gebruikt. Pyrolyse-olie is een vloeistof die uit moeilijk te recyclen plastic wordt gewonnen. Dankzij een project als dit kan de chemische industrie moeilijk te recyclen plastics omzetten in ‘nieuwe en nuttige producten’, aldus Shell. Shell zegt voor dit project samen te werken met klanten en partners.

Shell strikes first pile pyrolysis oil upgrader

The first pile has been driven into the ground at Shell Moerdijk for the construction of the pyrolysis oil upgrader. This plant should be up and running by 2024.

The official start of construction was performed at Shell Moerdijk on Monday 19 December last by Joram Meijerink (Vice President Growth) and Robin Mooldijk (Executive Vice President), assisted by Richard Zwinkels (General Manager Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk).

‘New and useful products’

Shell is investing 70 million euros in the construction of the pyrolysis oil upgrader. This plant can improve the quality of pyrolysis oil so that the oil can be reused in Shell’s plants. Pyrolysis oil is a liquid extracted from difficult-to-recycle plastic. A project like this will allow the chemical industry to turn hard-to-recycle plastics into “new and useful products”, Shell said. Shell says it is working with customers and partners for this project.
