Air Products en Gunvor willen gezamenlijk een waterstof-importterminal in Rotterdam realiseren. De bedrijven hebben hiertoe een ontwikkelingsovereenkomst getekend.

Als locatie hebben Air Products en Gunvor het terrein van laatstgenoemde in de Europoort op het oog. Daar kan de groene ammoniak worden omgezet naar groene waterstof en gedistribueerd naar Europese landen, zoals Nederland, Duitsland en België. 

Waterstof-importterminal

Er is nog geen investeringsbeslissing genomen, benadrukken Air Products en Gunvor. Dit zal pas gebeuren, stellen zij, ‘zodra ze voldoende vertrouwen hebben in het wet- en regelgevingskader, het vergunningsproces en de financieringssteun’. Ze hopen dat het project wordt erkend als een ‘Important Project of Common European Interest’ (IPCEI-project). Uit een door CE Delft uitgevoerde studie blijkt dat de bouw van de terminal 425 miljoen euro aan economische voordelen kan opleveren, ‘duizenden nieuwe banen’ en emissiereductie.

‘Essentieel’

“Waterstof-import is essentieel om onze energievoorziening te diversifiëren en de klimaatdoelstellingen te halen. Air Products, de grootste waterstofproducent ter wereld, wil aan beide ambities bijdragen door de ontwikkeling van de Europese groenewaterstofeconomie te versnellen via koploperprojecten zoals deze. We kijken uit naar verdere samenwerking met Gunvor om Rotterdam klaar te maken voor de import van groene waterstof”, stelt Ivo Bols, president Europa en Afrika-regio bij Air Products.

Plans for hydrogen import terminal in Rotterdam

Air Products and Gunvor want to realise a joint hydrogen import terminal in Rotterdam. The companies have signed a development agreement to this end.

As location Air Products and Gunvor have in mind the site of the latter in the Europoort. There the green ammonia can be converted into green hydrogen and distributed to European countries, such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
