Feasibility study into CCS successful

Neptune Energy’s feasibility study into CO2 storage in the ground to the North Sea has proved successful. It has entered into a cooperation agreement with ExxonMobil and EBN to come up with ‘a solid offer’.

At the end of 2020, Neptune Energy announced that it wanted to investigate the possibilities for a large-scale CCS project in the North Sea. For this purpose, it is considering depleted gas fields in the L10 area in the North Sea. The company thinks it can benefit from existing infrastructure.

Cooperation agreement

This week Neptune Energy announces that its feasibility study into this has been successful. It has signed a cooperation agreement with XTO Netherlands – subsidiary of ExxonMobil – and EBN Capital. The parties aim to bring together the necessary technical and commercial capabilities to create ‘a solid storage offering for the Dutch industry’.

Large-scale CO2 storage

According to Neptune Energy between 4 and 5 million tonnes of CO2 from industrial parties can be stored in the empty gas fields. This is the first phase of the ‘L10 CCS project’ to use the L10 area for large-scale CO2 storage.
