Substantial write-off Vopak terminals

Vopak has carried out a substantial write-off of two terminals in Rotterdam. It wrote off EUR 430 million on the terminals in Botlek and Europoort.

The tank storage company announced this week at the presentation of its half-year results. Vopak will write down EUR 240 million at the terminal in Europoort, where mainly oil is stored. The company says it wants to focus less on the storage of oil. It announces that it wants to reduce the capacity of the terminal and wants to use the land for investments in ‘new energy’.

Inflationary pressure

EUR 190 million will be written off on the storage terminal in the Botlek. Vopak claims that the terminal’s income is disappointing. It says it has to deal with inflationary pressure, increased raw material prices and high labour costs. Vopak is also writing down EUR 36 million on an LNG terminal in Colombia. Although the LNG market is on the rise, there is less demand for it in Colombia. More use was made of hydropower.

‘Proactive approach’

“We revised our assets value and booked asset impairment charges. This has no impact on the execution of our strategy, dividend policy or leverage ratio target. We are focused on executing and accelerating the energy transition by taking a proactive approach towards repurposing some of our existing assets”, says Vopak CEO Dick Richelle.
