Terra Inspectioneering heeft een serie inspecties afgerond van besloten ruimtes bij de terminal van ETT-VTTI in Rotterdam. Het gebruikte hiervoor drone-technologie.

“Bij andere opslagterminals is een tank vaak leeg, waardoor het gemakkelijker is om een andere tank uit bedrijf te nemen”, vertelt maintenance engineer Ralph van Dijk van ETT-VTTI. “Je verplaatst dan de inhoud van de ene opslagtank naar de andere. Maar die luxe hebben wij niet. Als een tank voor inspectie uit bedrijf moet worden genomen, beperken wij altijd de behoefte van de klant. Zij weten dat ook, maar toch vinden ze deze terminal blijkbaar leuk, omdat we altijd vol zitten. Daarom is het voor ons van groot belang om opslagtanks zo kort mogelijk uit bedrijf te nemen. De tijdwinst door de inzet van Terra is dan ook een groot voordeel. Bovendien kan ik de gegevens van de drones verifiëren. De drones filmen en maken foto’s. De software kan ook 3D-modellen maken. In tegenstelling tot de foto’s die rope access medewerkers vaak maken, zijn de foto- en videobeelden van de drones fantastisch.”

Verkorte inspectietijd

Marien van den Hoek: “Drones zijn de veiligste en betrouwbaarste instrumenten om complexe inspecties uit te voeren in besloten en GPS-geïsoleerde ruimten. Ze verkorten de inspectietijd met tot wel zestig procent en houden de werknemers veilig. Vooral in de huidige Covid-19-omgeving kan het gebruik van drones voor inspecties helpen om het aantal werknemers op de locatie te minimaliseren, waardoor organisaties kunnen voldoen aan de door de overheid opgelegde richtlijnen voor sociale afstand.”

Drone inspection of confined spaces at ETT-VTTI

Terra Inspectioneering has completed a series of inspections of confined spaces at the ETT-VTTI terminal in Rotterdam. It used drone technology for this.
