ABN AMRO • ABP • Aegon • Ahold Delhaize • AkzoNobel • Atradius • BAM Groep • Boskalis Westminster • BP • Dow • DSM • ExxonMobil • FrieslandCampina • ING • KLM • LyondellBasell • NN Group • PfZW • Rabobank • RWE • Schiphol • Stellantis • Tata Steel • Unilever • Uniper • Vion • Vitol • Vopak • Yara

Letter from Milieudefensie to companies ‘first step’

29 companies will receive a letter from Milieudefensie. In the letter, they will be asked how they intend to reduce their CO2 emissions by 45 per cent before 2030.

Director Donald Pols of Milieudefensie calls the letter ‘a first step’ in de Volkskrant. A next step would be a summons, as happened to Shell. BP, LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, Vopak, Boskalis, Uniper, Unilever and Vitol, among others, received the letter from the environmental organisation.

CO2 emissions

In the letter, Milieudefensie asks companies what their CO2 emissions are, both of factories and offices as well as of suppliers and customers. The companies must also outline how they intend to achieve at least a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

Summons

Milieudefensie has three months to respond. Companies that do too little, according to the environmental movement, can expect a summons. “We assume that companies will take the necessary steps to prevent dangerous climate change on the basis of moral awareness”, says Pols again in de Volkskrant.

These companies have received the letter:

ABN AMRO • ABP • Aegon • Ahold Delhaize • AkzoNobel • Atradius • BAM Groep • Boskalis Westminster • BP • Dow • DSM • ExxonMobil • FrieslandCampina • ING • KLM • LyondellBasell • NN Group • PfZW • Rabobank • RWE • Schiphol • Stellantis • Tata Steel • Unilever • Uniper • Vion • Vitol • Vopak • Yara
