Elektrificatieproject

English translation ->

(Foto: Shell)

Shell Moerdijk electrification project wins Shell award

An electrification project at Shell Moerdijk has been named project of the year within Shell. By electrifying a steam drive, a CO2 reduction of 13,000 tonnes per year could be achieved.

Shell carried out the project during a maintenance shutdown in 2019. A fossil fuel steam drive was replaced by an electric one. This results in a CO2 reduction of 13,000 tonnes per year. By way of comparison: the 76,000-panel solar farm at Shell Moerdijk generates 26,500 MWh annually, resulting in a CO2 saving of 12,160 tonnes.

‘An important step’

Shell’s project organisation for the European, Asian and Pacific regions declared the operation to be a project of the year 2020. Jackie Lava, who was an electrical project engineer at the time and involved in the project from start to finish, says she is proud. “This award proves that the team at Shell Moerdijk can successfully deliver world class projects. We carried out this project in the factory where we produce propylene oxide, a raw material for various products, such as foam for mattresses and car seats, but also insulation materials. With the new electrical installation, Shell Moerdijk took an important step in making its energy use more sustainable.”
