De tankopslagsector geldt niet als de meest vooruitstrevende bedrijfstak. Misschien daarom staat StocExpo Europe, dat van 20 tot en met 22 maart aanstaande in Ahoy Rotterdam wordt gehouden, grotendeels in het teken van innovatie. Het evenement biedt een uitgebreid aanbod aan exposanten op de beursvloer, er zijn workshops en parallel aan de beurs wordt een congres gehouden.
Op StocExpo tonen tegen de tweehonderd exposanten hun producten en diensten. Naast de vernieuwingen die deze bedrijven zullen presenteren, wordt op de tweede dag van het event, op woensdag 21 maart, aandacht aan vernieuwing geschonken. Dit gebeurt in een serie presentaties die door iTanks wordt verzorgd. Duurzaamheid en de toekomst van robotica zijn onderwerpen waarop zal worden ingegaan. Op donderdag 22 maart staat het thema ‘Engineers of the future’ centraal, ofwel het probleem van de vergrijzing en de moeite die bedrijven in de sector hebben om nieuwe mensen te vinden. Op de openingsdag van StocExpo zal de EEMUA (Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association) bezoekers bijpraten over nieuwe richtlijnen.
Energiebesparing
De StocExpo-conferentie is zeker de moeite van het bezoeken waard. Dit congres loopt gedurende drie dagen parallel aan de beurs. Op 20 maart staat het middagprogramma in het teken van de ‘Terminal of the Future’. Jane Ren, ceo van Atomiton, vertelt over de mogelijkheden die Internet of Things (IoT)-technologieën terminal operators kunnen bieden. De voordelen zijn te vinden op het vlak van energiebesparing, productiviteit, kwaliteit van dienstverlening en efficiency. Volgens Ren zijn de succesfactoren voor het welslagen van deze methoden zowel technisch als operationeel van aard. Als dit lukt, kunnen uit de terminal gewonnen gegevens worden omgezet in ‘waardevolle, betekenisvolle intelligence’. Ren zal haar presentatie onderbouwen met een aantal casestudies uit bestaande tankopslagfaciliteiten die hun activiteiten hebben gedigitaliseerd.
LNG
Het congresprogramma biedt daarnaast ruimte voor sessies speciaal gericht op veiligheid, hoe het aantal incidenten bij terminals kan worden verminderd, de procesveiligheid valt te verbeteren en welke lessen van de chemische industrie kunnen worden getrokken. Een ander onderwerp dat aan bod komt is het toegenomen gebruik van LNG, en welke consequenties dit voor de tankopslag heeft. Hakan Jubel, werkzaam voor Emerson, is een expert op het gebied van tankmeting voor cryogene systemen. Hij geeft zijn visie op wat dit voor de sector betekent en wat moet worden gedaan om te voldoen aan de specifieke eisen van LNG-opslag.
